All you have to do is download the Monese app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and it will take you through the sign-up process in a few minutes! You simply need to be ready to take a photo of your ID documents (National ID card, driving license, or passport) and a quick video selfie of yourself. You will also need to have a valid and unique email address and a mobile phone number capable of receiving text messages.
As the law requires all financial institutions to identify and verify their customers then here is how Monese verifies you before opening your UK or Eurozone account.
Automatic verification path
If you happen to have lived at the same address for a longer period of time then chances are that our system will be able to validate this automatically, in which case all you need to do is take good quality pictures of your ID document and pose for a short video selfie.
In case your address is not automatically matched then your account can still be automatically opened if you submit another ID document in the app when asked. For example if your primary ID was your passport then you can use your national ID card or driver’s license as the secondary ID. This is the most popular verification option among Monese customers today.
Manual verification path
Should the automatic path fail there are still two more options in the app that allow you to proceed with a little help from our Verifications team
Option 1: make a video call using the Monese app! This service is open Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm UK time and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. When you call please make sure you have a good internet connection and your ID document with you. Our team can see your language preferences based on your app language and if possible we will match it but if not then we will default to English.
Option 2: Submit a proof of address in the app and our team will review this within 2 business days. A proof of address shows your address as it is on your application, is not outdated, and is in a PDF or valid image format. Please make sure that all documents submitted show the full document not just the address part and that the text is readable. The following documents may be accepted:
- Utility bills like gas, electric, or landline phones (mobile phone bills are not acceptable)
- Residence permit - front and back please
- Official government letters from the tax office, local government, health insurance or other relevant offices
- Bank statements of another bank in your country
- Tenancy agreements
