What's considered an international payment?

An international payment is any payment that isn’t considered a domestic payment, and is typically the payment type when receiving money into a Monese account from a different country, currency or both.

For instance, receiving Hong Kong dollar into your GBP account is considered an international payment, as is receiving US dollars into your EUR account. In fact, receiving euros into your EUR account from the US would still be considered an international payment as the US isn't in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA).

For these type of incoming payment, you'll need to ask the sender to make the payment using SWIFT. You'll also need to subscribe to a multi-currency IBAN. This allows us to give you a unique SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications) IBAN (International Bank Account Number), which you can link to one of your Monese accounts.
