Why is my account balance negative?

If you don't have enough money in your account, you might go into a negative balance when a transaction you’ve made isn’t processed until later on.
The most common situations when this can happen are:

  • If you use your card to pay for public transport without having enough money in your account
  • If you've given authorisation to a car rental company to charge you money for any damages
  • If you’ve paid for something whilst on a flight without having enough money in your account

We don’t charge a penalty for your balance going below 0, but you’ll need to repay the amount before you can use your account again. To repay it, simply top up your account with enough money to get your balance back above 0.
It’s also worth remembering that we don’t offer overdrafts at the moment."
